The Day the Crayons Quit
On a sunny afternoon, in a cozy bedroom filled with colorful artwork and doodles, Duncan was just about to open his box of crayons for another creative adventure. His walls were lined with his favorite drawings, from rainbow unicorns to green forests, but something unusual caught his eye today. As he opened his crayon box, Duncan found instead of crayons, there were letters! Each was addressed to him. Puzzled, he picked up the first letter and began to read. "Dear Duncan, I'm overworked! You color me all the time for the sky and oceans. Give me a break! - Your overused pal, Blue Crayon." Duncan blinked in surprise and then reached for another letter. "Dear Duncan, Why do you always use me to draw the sun and leave me feeling left out of other pictures? I want to color more than just sunshine! - Yellow Crayon." Duncan giggled but gasped as he opened another letter. "Dear Duncan, I am tired of being a bear, a duck, and sometimes a dinosaur. Can't I be something more fun for a change? - Gruff but grumbly, Brown Crayon." Duncan couldn't help but laugh as he continued reading letter after letter. Green Crayon was happy but worried about his friends. Pink Crayon was upset that she was hardly used, and even Black Crayon complained about being used only for outlines. "Dear Duncan, Please, let me be something joyful, not just a straight line. It’s been ages since you used me for your drawings of space rockets. - Sincerely, Black Crayon." Then, just as Duncan was pondering these cries for help, a voice called from behind the dresser. "Duncan, over here!" Startled, Duncan turned to see a little cupboard, usually unnoticed, slightly ajar. He opened it to reveal a hidden crayon—the Rainbow Crayon. "Duncan, surprise! Why not use me today?" Rainbow Crayon said, twirling out of the cupboard. "With me, you can create anything, and your other crayons can take a rest." Excited, Duncan picked up Rainbow Crayon and started to draw. With swift, graceful strokes, he created a magnificent scene where all colors blended together perfectly. There were rainbow unicorns, multi-colored trees, and a dazzling sunset sky. As he drew, he could feel the happiness emanating from his usually overworked crayons. "Wow, Duncan," said Yellow Crayon, smiling from its spot beside the box. "This is amazing!" "No more tired hands," added Blue Crayon cheerfully. "Thanks, Duncan!" Duncan beamed at his masterpiece, happy to see his crayons both colorful and content. From that day on, he promised to use all his crayons in balanced fun ways, and sometimes, he’d return to Rainbow Crayon to bring everything together harmoniously. And so, Duncan's bedroom walls were filled with even more beautiful, vibrant artwork. His crayons? More than happy. They lived colorfully ever after, promising always to let their imaginations shine as boldly as Rainbow Crayon itself. The end.
